How to Root Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 [Full Tutorial]

Samsung Galaxy Y is a low-end Android phone that brings Android 2.3 Gingerbread phones at a very affordable price. We already posted for How to Install Android 4.2.2 and Hyperion 9 GM Custom ROM on Galaxy Y, but after that you need a tutorial on how to root your Samsung Galaxy Y S5360.

A tiny notice that I’m sure you must be knowing as well. Rooting your Android phone will void your warranty, but then you would be able to enjoy your favourite root apps i.e Titanium Backup.

Check Samsung Galaxy Y Software Version

First, make sure you are on the required Android version so there are no issues later when trying to root your Samsung Galaxy Y. Galaxy Y should be on Android 2.3.5 / 2.3.6. How to check that? Follow the simple steps below:

• Go to Settings.
• Then scroll to the bottom and tap “About phone”.

If it is not Android 2.3.5 / 2.3.6, then please don’t proceed with the tutorial or you might brick your phone or  lose your existing phone data.

Make sure you have installed all your USB drivers for the Samsung Galaxy Y to connect it with the computer. Now, let’s proceed with the tutorial below to root your phone.

How to Root Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 on Android 2.3.5 / 2.3.6

We have put together a detailed step-by-step instructions guide on how to root Galaxy Y on Android 2.3.5 / Android 2.3.6. If you are used to installing custom ROMs on your Samsung Galaxy Y, then this should not be any different for you.

Just To Remember:

• This tutorial is only for Galaxy Y (S5360) and I am not sure if it will work on the other variants of the Galaxy Y on other carriers.
• My phone has Android 2.3.5 (official update) which was NOT rooted.
• Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding.

Entire Step-By-Step Procedure:

Step 1 - Download update.zip for Galaxy Y on your PC, if you haven’t already.

Step 2 - Connect and mount your Galaxy Y USB memory on your computer using the USB cable.

Step 3 - Now copy/paste the update.zip file to your SD card. Make sure the file is in the root (not in any folders).

Step 4 - Then turn off your phone.

Step 5 - Now to get in the recovery mode. Turn on the phone while pressing and holding the volume up, home and power buttons.

Step 6 - You will get an exclamation mark now. Again hold your volume up and power buttons. You should now be in your recovery mode.

Step 7 - Select update from SD card. Now select update.zip file and select it with the Power button. Installation should start now.

Step 8 - After the installation completes, the phone will boot now and it might take about 5 minutes to boot on your first time. So, please wait.

That’s it! Your Galaxy Y is now rooted and should have the Superuser app installed in your phone!
